Our Beliefs
We believe in one God—
the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe the Bible communicates God’s saving message
and is our reliable authority in all matters related to faith
and Christian living.
We believe that all humankind struggles with a downward pull.
We believe that unless we experience God’s help and salvation through a faith commitment to Jesus Christ, our future is one of eternal separation from God and all that is good.
We believe the love and grace of God is extended to
every person in the provision Jesus Christ made
in his death and resurrection.
By turning from our own selfishness and trusting Jesus Christ,
we experience a new life, being freed from the old patterns
of self–destructive acts called sin.
We believe our new life in Jesus Christ is the gateway to transformation. Following our moment of faith in Jesus,
we believe there is another moment in which we present our life completely to Christ in order to live under his authority and
to experience his transforming power.
We believe that Christian experience is more than a change of mind. It is accompanied by assurance that is grounded in both the Scriptures as well as the inner witness of God’s Spirit.
We believe that all who live for Jesus Christ have an eternal future.
Our belief in such a future includes both the fulfillment of God's creative purpose as well as the accountability of all persons endowed
with the power of choice.

Our Story
Get to know more about what makes us different.
In 1934, a small group of believers came together on Buchanan Street in Memphis. In 1937, they moved to Jackson Avenue, and Calvary Church was officially organized as a congregation. This growing group moved to a new location on Stage Road in 1973.
On Easter Sunday 2001, Calvary Church moved to its current home on Houston Levee Road in Cordova - a community thriving with opportunity and growth. We beginning a new adventure - intent on reflecting God’s diversity and committed to modeling reconciliation.
In 2011, Calvary Pictures, a ministry of Calvary Church, along with Provident Films and GraceWorks Pictures, produced THE GRACE CARD (The Grace Card), a major motion picture that tells the story of how the power of God can help us overcome racial prejudice. It is a “Memphis” story; and it is OUR story.
In 2015, we acquired the 11 acres adjacent to us creating a 38-acre campus. The purchase of this property launched Houston Levee Community Center (hlccmemphis.org) - a place where we could minister to and help our community through before school care, seminars, a parish nurse program, English as a Second Language classes, H.O.A. meetings, sports events, and other services for all ages. We want HLCC to be a place where our community comes together!
In 2017, Calvary Pictures, GraceWorks Pictures, and Provident Films produced another movie, INDIVISIBLE (Indivisible), based on the true story of Army Chaplain Darren Turner and his wife Heather, and their fight to save their marriage. INDIVISIBLE communicated our message of reconciliation around the world!
In 2022, we began Houston Levee Cowboy Church, which meets on Sunday afternoons at Houston Levee Community Center, with a vision to be a place of grace that equips individuals to be fully devoted followers of Christ within the cowboy culture. We built Circle C Arena located behind Calvary Church to allow for equine activities, rodeos, campfire gatherings, and fellowship. The arena is open following Cowboy Church services on Sundays. You can find out more information about the Cowboy Church and Circle C Arena by visiting houstonleveecowboychurch.com.
It is our privilege to welcome you and to serve you and your family! We hope you will discover you are loved by God and by people who Love. Serve. Multiply.
